Patricia Dienstfrey was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in New England. Her books include Newspaper Stories and Other Poems (Berkeley Poets' Cooperative, 1974); Small Salvations,(Kelsey St.,1987), a new American Writing selection as an entry to the Frankfurt Book Fair, 1988; The Woman Without Experiences, (Kelsey St.,1995), winner of The America Award for Literature, 1996. Her work appears in Moving Borders: Three Decades of Innovative Writing by Women, edited by Mary Margaret Sloan (Talisman House, 1997). Currently, with Brenda Hillman, she is co-editing a collection of essays entitled New Writings on Poetics and Motherhood. She is the mother of three grown sons and lives with her husband, Ted Dienstfrey, in Berkeley, CA.
