In Support of our Community

In support of our community during this difficult time, we will donate the entire proceeds of all book sales through the Kelsey Street Press website from now until the end of January to Southern Poverty Law Center and Planned Parenthood. From Humanimal by Bhanu Kapil

I want to stand up but I can’t do that here. They would know I am a wolf by my sore hips, the look in my eyes. At the edge of the garden was a line of blue chalk. My mother was crouching there, waiting for me in her dark coat. In the dream, I walk towards her and she stands up. She opens up her coat like two wings and I step into her cloth heart, her cleft of matted fur.

From Concordance by Mei-mei Berssenbrugge

Look at my body as light reflecting the thought and feeling: it’s not safe here.

Remove anxiousness over persons you yearn for, stepping back to observe, like an animal in the fourth dimension.

Since animals don’t judge, their evolving cosmic skills are a source of richness for us.

A bird lands on the rim of your tub; a wolf licks your baby’s head.

When she cries and the part of you who cries wakes, do you hold her to suppress feeling?

Yearning can’t be split and the animal lost, ahead of time.
