Bersenbruggge and more to read at Sarah Lawrence

April 25-27, 2008

The Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival is the largest free poetry festival in New York State. Organized entirely by students, the Festival has become a vital annual event for the entire New York literary community. The weekend-long Festival features both daytime and evening readings by the finest poets writing today, as well as some of the East Coast’s most innovative student work. Last year, poet Paul Muldoon and his band, Rackett, appeared in concert.

Feminism and Art Today: A Roundtable Discussion at CCA

Participants include: Kim Anno, Tammy Rae Carland, Berin Golonu, Jessica Hough, Patricia Maloney, Pamela Peniston, Moira Roth, Stephanie Syjuco, and Tina Takemoto.

Friday, April 11th
4-6
Timken Lecture Hall
California College of the Arts

Reception to follow.

This event lends impetus to contemporary feminist initiatives in the arts while contributing to the analysis of both the feminist rhetoric and the art circulating currently within art-world and academic contexts. We have invited art historians, artists, curators, critics, and art administrators who actively participate in the expansion of feminist cultural arenas to engage in conversation with CCA students and faculty members, as well as members of the wider community, about the influx of institutional interest in feminism. We ask, “Why now? What are the political stakes? Where are the silences and blind spots? Where do we go from here?”  We aim to create a space for public dialog and intergenerational exchange about contemporary visual culture that engages with feminist issues, provokes feminist analysis, and raises social consciousness.
